William Allen of Two Shepherds
50% Vermentino, 50% Grenache Blanc
Why We Love It
It's been nearly two years since we released our killer Carignan from William Allen, the winemaker and owner of Two Shepherds Winery. William specializes in making wines from grape varieties that are transplants from the Rhône Valley in France. We tasted through a few barrels and found the rich texture and ripe apple notes from the Grenache Blanc were perfectly balanced by the refreshing acidity and pronounced citrus tones from the Vermentino. This blend makes me incredibly happy, and I hope it makes you just as happy.
Markus Niggli of Markus Wines
60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Petite Verdot, 10% Merlot, 10% Malbec
Why We Love It
Winemaker Markus Niggli grew up in Switzerland before starting a career in the international travel industry. After a successful run as an executive, he began to look for a change of pace. Soon, he was working as a cellar hand in the wine country of western Australia. From there, he headed to California where he joined the team at Borra Vineyards in Lodi. Founded in 1975, Borra was the first bonded winery in the region, forty years before the national wine press started talking about the serious potential of the district. Markus was quickly promoted to head winemaker, and in 2014 was able to start his own side project, Markus Wine Company.
